Bajaj Auto has added a new entry-level model to its electric scooter portfolio with the launch of the Chetak C2501, priced at Rs 91,399 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Positioned as the most affordable Chetak on sale, the C2501 is aimed squarely at urban commuters looking for a simpler, lighter and more accessible electric scooter from a well-established brand.

Compared to the existing Chetak variants, the C2501 focuses on ease of use rather than outright performance, while still retaining the familiar Chetak character.

A Familiar Look, But Slimmer

At first glance, the Chetak C2501 is unmistakably a Chetak. However, it looks noticeably more compact and slimmer than the higher-spec models. Bajaj has made subtle design changes to distinguish it, including a new round LED headlamp and revised lighting elements.

The rear features an upswept panel with a single tail-lamp, which also incorporates the rear indicators. Unlike the premium Chetak models, the mirrors on the C2501 are finished in black plastic, though practical touches like flush-fitting pillion footpegs and a parking brake lock clasp have been retained.

Built to Be Light and Approachable

One of the biggest differences lies in its proportions. With a seat height of 763 mm and a kerb weight of 108 kg, the C2501 is significantly lighter than other Chetak models, making it easier to handle in traffic and while parking — especially for first-time EV buyers.

Smaller Battery, City-Focused Range

Powering the Chetak C2501 is a 2.5 kWh battery mounted in the floorboard, which Bajaj claims offers a range of up to 113 km on a single charge. This setup clearly positions the scooter for daily city commuting rather than extended highway runs.

Charging Time and Setup

Charging duties are handled by a 750W off-board charger. According to Bajaj, a full charge from 0 to 100 percent takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes, which is in line with expectations for scooters in this segment.

Hub Motor and Performance

The C2501 is the first Chetak to use a hub-mounted motor, producing 1.8 kW of continuous power and 2.2 kW at peak. As a result, the scooter has a claimed top speed of 55 kmph, making it suitable for city roads rather than high-speed commuting.

In terms of features, the C2501 is reasonably well equipped. It gets a reverse LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, enabling call alerts and music controls. Other additions include hill-hold assist, Eco and Sport riding modes, reverse function, USB charging, a small front storage cubby and a 25-litre underseat storage compartment.
